Mazunte is a fishermen village dedicated to ecotourism. A short while ago its economy was based on the trade of turtle. Nowadays inhabitants protect the fauna and the flora of this little garden of Eden.

Thanks to laws on the protection of the environment and to local desire to protect this natural heritage, you can admire dolphins and sea turtles all year long and whales in winter. In the close lagoon you’ll see crocodiles in their natural habitat, iguanas and about a hundred different species of birds which come to spend winter in a warm spot. The climate is subtropical with a dry season from November to May and a light wet season from June to September. Temperatures are between 25° and 30° all year long.
Concerning activities in Nature, the Rinconcito beach is a quiet spot for swimming, protected from the pacific waves by the rocks on Punta Cometa. For those who love waves and surf, you’ll find San Augustinillo beach five minutes away from Mazunte.
